‘GoreMade’ Gourmet Pizza in the Italian Village
When I walked past GoreMade Pizza on N. Fourth St. in Columbus’s Italian Village, I knew I had to try the pizza.
It wasn’t just the hilarious dad pun in the name (I have three kids so I appreciate that), it was also the gorgeous whitewashed brick oven glowing with hot embers visible through the window.
I’m always a sucker for a good show, and serious pizza chefs like owner Nicholas Gore and manager Craig Bahnsen tend to put on a good one.
You can tell from the intensity of Craig’s stare that he’s achieving a higher state as he precisely exposes the dough and cheese to the heat inside the oven.
From the classic toss and spin of the raw dough to the theatrical extraction of the steaming pie, Goremade Pizza is as fun to watch as it is to eat.
And man, that char on the Neapolitan-inspired crust coupled with the sweet, fresh taste of the tomato sauce means it’s one of the best pizzas in Columbus I’ve eaten so far.
The SkilletReport will be checking out pizza purveyors throughout the metro area, including those on the Columbus Pizza Trail list. Experience Columbus, the city’s version of a convention and visitors bureau, assembles the pizza trail and provides a free app to track your visits to local pizzerias to win shirts and other items.
No plans for Easter? Check out Goremade’s “Holy Toast” brunch at 11 a.m. March 31 focusing on breads and other seasonal dishes using locally sourced grains and foraged ingredients (no pizza, but everything comes from the fancy woodfired oven)!
